Riddle: when a leader of the experimental post-rock'n'roll band After Dinner, icon of the Japanese underground, meets a victorious international DJ of the "undergrounds Grammy Award" from the transexuals clubs of New York, which is moreover the founder of the Comatonse label and an absolute Master does it seems of contemporary ambient and of electro acoustics, what does it end up with? Answer: "Yesterday's Heroes 1979". Funny album that came out in the beginning of the year, as intriguing as its authors, Haco, the Japanese woman and Terre Thaemlitz, the American of Minnesota (sic). Alas, for the uninitiated persons, the mystery which surrounds this album does not stop there. Let's lean on those which produced it: an association based in Lozere, answering the soft name of "La Louche qui fait déborder le vase"... One may understands nothing there. But it does not matter finally.

Not need to dissect "Yesterday' S heroes 1979" it is familiar for us... Its goal is not only to fly over the musical history, the years 80' S especially, like other ones but to make fun at the same time of the current revival new-wave and electro trend and of those who could not, by frilosity or pure interest, detached themselves from the diktats of the records industry...

This, one can perceived at first listening! The revival thus, still and always will say the detractors. A revival nevertheless rather well thought here, and not that revival after all. Because when a Japanese woman, helped by the man of Minnesota, re-cook certain titles of Kraftwerk at her sauce and re-read in other pieces some pages of the Western new-wave, one may wonder... that's rather uncommon. Impossible to remain insensitive at any rate, unless if you're satisfied with the first degree shown in this album and if you take nothing seriously. And at this game, the Japanese woman and the American are very strong, jumping as soon as the very first song into the turning aside of the most beautiful productions of the time and absolute kitchissime...

A first title, which encourages it is true to a certain vigilance, quickly swept by what follows: an album with various moods and oddly captivating. Capricious, undecided, wise and agitated, alternating permanently between sweet pop and melancholy, electro and minimalist techno, without order. It works. And it works so well that one almost sees himself going up on a very dizzy merry-go-round. A merry-go-round of repetitive rhythms almost obsessional which turns, which still turns and turns during long, long, very long minutes... almost reaching a state close to the hypnosis from which you can escape thanks to Haco's really exotic way of singing and her soft interludes... But it all starts again. Always.

Connected to heavy cells and enduring, Haco seldom stops. Neither Terre Thaemlitz, accomplice not less active of this recent nippo-American alliance. Let's celebrate this. Lets' have a toast to the various degrees of "Yesterday' S heroes 1979", refreshing and well shaken.
